Meet-up @ Sexyland: Gevangenis als straf ter discussie

On March 28 from 18.00 at Sexyland (Amsterdam), Foundation Restorative Justice Netherlands + RESCALED together with Incarceration Nations Network [INN] organizes a film screening of the short film ‘Correcting Correctional Centers’, directed by Baz Dreisinger.

For over 200 years we have used prison as punishment, but does prison serve the purpose for which it was conceived? On March 28, prison as punishment is up for debate. Is it still appropriate and desirable in these days and this age or is it the power of habit? Is prison as a means of punishment still widely supported by the population? If so, for whom and for whom it is not (anymore)? We are going to find out together with you in this year 2022! March 28 is the starting signal! On this evening you can participate in the discussion, look at good examples and during a drink in the café exchange ideas with people who are already working on great initiatives!

Baz was born and raised in New York and she is the founder of Incarceration Nations Network. This is a global network of people and organizations that supports and discusses innovative prison reform. This evening we celebrate the nice things that have already been done. We’ll discuss and see examples of substitutions for imprisonment. We speak to people who have been working to improve criminal justice for years and we hear from people who have lived in prisons. Spoken word artist Quinsy Gario will sum up the evening in his words as a closing.

Op 28 maart vanaf 18.00 bij Sexyland (Amsterdam) organiseert Stichting Restorative Justice Nederland + RESCALED samen met Incarceration Nations Network [INN] een filmscreening van de korte film ‘Correcting Correctional Centers’, geregisseerd door Baz Dreisinger.

Ruim 200 jaar zetten we de gevangenis al in als straf, maar dient de gevangenis wel het doel waarvoor deze is bedacht? Op 28 maart staat de gevangenis als straf ter discussie. Is dat in deze tijd nog steeds gepast en gewenst of is het de macht der gewoonte? Wordt de gevangenis als middel tot straf nog steeds breed gedragen door de bevolking? Zo ja, voor wie wel en voor wie niet (meer)? Dat gaan we in dit jaar 2022 uitzoeken met jullie! 28 maart is daarvoor het startsein! Op deze avond kun je meepraten, kijken naar mooie voorbeelden en tijdens een drankje in het café van gedachten wisselen met mensen die al bezig zijn met mooie initiatieven!
Baz is geboren en getogen in New York en ze is de oprichter van Incarceration Nations Network. Dit is een wereldwijd netwerk van mensen en organisaties dat innovatieve hervorming van gevangenissen ondersteunt en bespreekbaar maakt. Deze avond vieren we de toffe dingen die al worden gedaan. We bespreken en zien voorbeelden van vervangingen voor gevangenisstraf. We spreken mensen die zich al jaren bezighouden met het verbeteren van het strafrecht en we horen van mensen die in gevangenissen hebben geleefd. Spoken word artist Quinsy Gario zal als afsluiting de avond in zijn woorden samenvatten.
